Day 5- Diet!

If there is ONE good thing about being a cfer, it's getting to eat what you want, when you want...no matter how fatty it is!!! :)

Doughnuts...

Cupcakes....

Greasy chicken and chips....

chocolate milkshakes....

chocolate fudge cake.....

ice cream sundaes....

more cupcakes....

chocolate pancakes....

Mc Donalds....

People with cf need extra fat and calories in their diets to help them fight off lung infections, and the fat/calorie intake needs to be increased when they are sick!

Currently, Eve takes in about 2,500-3,000 calories a day....when she is sick she needs at least 3,500 calories daily. Because she has such a huge appetite (she is every cf nutritionists dream!) Eve generally consumes all these calories through her food intake...but on the rare occasions where she loses her appetite, she drinks nutritional supplement drinks.

A typical daily diet for Eve consists of:

Breakfast- a bagel smothered in butter and nutella/peanut butter.

Lunch- bacon, sausages, eggs and toast with lots of butter and cheese.

Dinner- cheesy chicken tacos/ waffles, beans and sausages/ creamy pasta with bacon and cheese

Also throughout the day she snacks on chocolate, crisps, ice cream, sandwiches, fruit with cream, buttery toast etc.

For a 5yr old, she eats an insane amount of food in one day! Just today I had given her a huge plate of chicken with melted cheese on top, a plate of chips (french fries) with melted cheese on top, a sandwich with nutella and marshmallow fluff and almost a full Cadburys Easter egg (all for dinner) and she said "Mammy, im still hungry!!!" She calls herself "the unfillable child!" :)

Before Eve's surgery, she only came in the 3rd percentile for her weight and the 5th for her height...and since the surgery, she has gained an insane amount of weight (she actually almost doubled her body weight in a matter of months) and now falls in the 85th percentile for weight and 90th for height!

The only one downfall about the cf diet is the cost! You would not believe how much I spend on Eve's groceries in a month (we're talking several hundred!) Fatty foods are expensive!!!!
