Cute as a button, sick as a dog!: Day 4- Illness and Admissions

Boy this could be a long one! :)

So for the first almost 3 years of Eve's life she was the happiest healthiest little girl! But as she approached her 3rd birthday she started to get very sick and was first hospitalised in Sept '08 with an acute exacerbation (severe infection) in her right lung. She spent 2 weeks in hospital undergoing IV treatment. After that we had 2-3 months of her being healthy, but right after her 3rd birthday in Jan '09 she was admitted again for 3 weeks with another exacerbation in the right lung. Shortly after that she was admitted again in April '09 for another 3 weeks with yet another exacerbation in the right lung.

She had an ok summer but was admitted again in September '09 while we were on holiday in Chicago with what was by far her worst exacerbation ever. She had stopped breathing during the night and was rushed to the ER on the morning of 9/11. Turned out she had contracted a blood infection from the dead portion of her right lung (we didnt know it was dead at the time). Her o2 sats were at 52% when she was admitted and she was minutes away from complete organ failure. That admission lasted over 3 weeks, including a 10 day stay in the ICU.

We thought after Chicago that she would stay healthy for a while, but just 4 weeks after she was discharged she was back in again in Ireland. She spent 3 weeks in hospital, during which we found out about her right lung being dead and her needing a lobectomy. Eve was discharged Dec 12th '09 and was back in 3 weeks later on the 2nd Jan, a day after her 4th birthday. This was her longest admission as she was having the surgery on the 18th. She spent over 4 weeks in hospital and came out a brand new little girl, minus 1 lung! :)

For 9 whole months Eve was completely healthy and happy, just like she was when she was a baby. But then in September '10 she started getting sick again and spent 3 more weeks in hospital. She was discharged mid september but was sick again a week later. Somehow she managed to avoid another admission, that was until Feb '11 when she got very sick again. She spent over 3 weeks in hospital again, undergoing port surgery.
